Minimoog Model D — Creative Control

Level 2 — Beyond the Classic Settings

Level 1 gave you the foundation. Level 2 is about using it as a launchpad. Twelve sessions covering oscillator FM (bell, metallic, electric piano timbres), feedback loop as deliberate harmonic distortion, filter self-oscillation as tonal percussion, pad design, noise as production element, CV/Gate integration with external hardware, patch library management, advanced filter programming, and a full hybrid production session template. Every session produces a usable production asset.

What You Will Cover

The Minimoog techniques that most producers never access.

Twelve sessions cover: oscillator 3 FM modulation with carrier-modulator ratio relationships and four production-ready FM timbres; feedback loop mapping across all five character zones with distorted bass and aggressive lead patches; filter self-oscillation as a percussion source — tonal hits, sub kicks, and click transients; pad design with slow-attack envelopes and LFO filter movement; noise as texture, transition riser, and random modulation source; Oscillator 3 versus dedicated LFO comparison; CV and Gate integration for external hardware control; hardware sequencer gate-triggering; patch library management system; five advanced filter modes; professional DAW session template; and a four-element hybrid production section.

By the end of Level 2, you make deliberate production choices — distorted or clean bass, FM or sawtooth lead, keyboard-tracked or static filter — rather than defaulting to the classic settings because they are familiar.

Where This Level Fits

From knowing what the Minimoog does to knowing why you are choosing each option.

Level 2 assumes you can program the classic patches from memory and record at professional standards. The focus is on the Minimoog's non-obvious capabilities — the techniques that fall outside any standard subtractive synthesis tutorial and require direct hands-on work to develop.

Completing Level 2 unlocks Level 3 Professional — Eurorack integration, MIDI and CV automation, multi-instrument stack design, systematic patch development methodology, and a distribution-ready capstone track built around the Minimoog as its core instrument.

Session Overview

12 Sessions — Minimoog Model D Creative Control

Session 1

Oscillator FM — Osc 3 as FM source, carrier-modulator ratios, and four production-ready timbres: bell, metallic, electric piano, and noise texture.

Session 2

Feedback Loop as Deliberate Distortion — five character zones mapped, distorted bass patch, feedback plus noise combination.

Session 3

Filter Self-Oscillation as Percussion — percussion-only configuration, tuned tonal hits, sub kick patch, click and pop transients.

Session 4

Pad Design — slow-attack sustaining pad, LFO filter movement, oscillator detune for density, and layered pad-plus-bass recording.

Session 5

Noise as a Production Element — filtered noise texture, transition riser at three lengths, noise-FM modulation for grunge bass.

Session 6

Oscillator 3 as Analog Character LFO — LFO drift, simultaneous pitch and filter modulation, comparison with the dedicated LFO.

Session 7

CV Integration — all CV/Gate connections mapped, Minimoog as MIDI-to-CV converter, external hardware integration template.

Session 8

Gate and Trigger — external hardware sequencing via Gate In, hardware versus MIDI timing character comparison.

Session 9

Patch Library Management — documentation protocol, audio reference system, panel photography, recall verification test.

Session 10

Advanced Filter Programming — five modes: parallel overdrive, vowel formant sweep, key-tracked resonance, dark sub-bass, full-open harmonic pass.

Session 11

Advanced Recording — MWHQ DAW session template, no-compression first-pass protocol, MWHQ naming conventions, five-patch recording session.

Session 12

Creative Control Review — four-element hybrid production section: Minimoog bass, lead, pad, and one additional element. Full documentation.
