Level 1 takes you from first login to a finished instrumental composition you own and can still change. Twelve sessions cover why a score matters more than a render, the four areas of the interface, generation from a style, the four-pass listening method, the six-layer architecture, the piano-roll editor most users never find, section editing, export formats and the download budget, and a complete run through the MWHQ pipeline. By Session 12 you are editing compositions, not accepting generations.
AIVA's piano-roll editor is hidden behind a per-track context menu, which is why most users judge the platform on a raw first generation and abandon it. Session 9 is a full working session inside it — Pointer and Pencil modes, section construction, and layer in-painting.
The four-pass method — structure, harmony, melody, then every layer in solo — tells you within ninety seconds whether a generation is worth your editing time, and which part of it is. Keep for harmony and form; never for the instrument sounds.
Orchestrated MIDI is the deliverable that matters. Students leave able to rebuild an AIVA composition in their own DAW with their own libraries — and knowing why that is worth more than a better-sounding render.
The 12 sessions run in deliberate sequence: why symbolic generation is a different category of object from waveform generation, a full interface tour, first generations and the variation rule, all six Create Track modes, the six-layer architecture, style vocabulary and the tempo-pacing trap, influence upload with its exact technical requirements, the four-pass quality control method, a full working session in the editor, export formats and the dynamics curve, the MWHQ pipeline, and compositional identity for the long game.
Every session ends with a required deliverable. Students leave with a finished composition delivered twice — as an AIVA render and as an orchestrated MIDI file rebuilt in their own DAW — plus a personal QC checklist, a five-style shortlist, and an identity statement.
Level 1 establishes reliable editing and export capability. You leave able to take any generation to a finished standard in under fifteen minutes — which is the prerequisite for Level 2's harmonic workflow, Style Designer work and professional MIDI handoff.
This level is right for producers, composers, media-music creators and complete beginners willing to work in notes rather than prompts. It is not right for anyone whose work is song-based or vocal-led — AIVA generates no vocals, and this curriculum says so in Session 1 rather than Session 11.
