Academy / AIVA Ladder / Level 2

AIVA: Creative Control & Workflow

Level 2 moves you out of style-only generation and into the modes where you specify the music. Twelve sessions cover the chord progression workflow, Text-to-Harmony prompt craft, the extension pass, saved Composition Workflows, influence upload, Step by Step, MIDI import with layer in-painting, the Style Designer in depth, orchestration technique, the orchestrated MIDI handoff to your DAW, AIVA's three licence tiers read precisely, sync foundations and commercial delivery standards.

Specify the Harmony

In style-only mode you might generate six variations to find one worth keeping. Working from a progression you wrote, the first or second is usually usable — because the most common cause of an unusable generation has been removed from the model's discretion.

Build the Generator

The Style Designer is the deepest part of AIVA and the part almost nobody uses. Layer priorities, minimum layer count, accompaniment packs, pitch ranges, doubling, note tie and swing — the parameters that separate output that sounds composed from output that sounds generated.

Know What You May Sell

Session 8 reads AIVA's three tiers precisely — including the Standard tier's four-platform limitation, which reads like permission and is not. One unambiguous operational rule keeps client work safe.

What You'll Cover

Harmony, styles, the handoff, and the commercial questions answered properly.

The 12 sessions run: the chord progression workflow and the four setup commitments, Text-to-Harmony prompt craft with a mechanical vocabulary, the extension pass and harmonic rhythm control, saved Composition Workflows organised by dramatic function, influence upload with its exact technical requirements, Step by Step for arranging your own material, MIDI import and layer in-painting, the Style Designer in two full sessions, the three realism controls, mixing inside AIVA versus mixing after export, the orchestrated MIDI handoff, and the licence, sync, delivery and revenue sessions that make it a business.

Every session ends with a required deliverable. Students leave with a custom generative style, a workflow family, a coherent ten-piece set with complete metadata, a reusable DAW template, and a submittable delivery package.

Where This Level Fits

Level 2 makes you capable of professional output. Level 3 turns it into a business.

You leave this level specifying harmony rather than accepting it, designing your own generative styles, using AIVA as an assistant on your own MIDI, and delivering to library and client standards with stems, cut-downs and correct rights.

This level assumes Level 1 or equivalent fluency. It is for the producer who has reached the ceiling of style-only generation and wants control — over harmony, over structure, and over the generator itself.

Next Step

Stop gambling. Start composing.

The tell that you have made the transition is what you do when a generation disappoints you. Someone in style-only mode regenerates and hopes. Someone working from a progression changes two extensions, adjusts the minimum layer count, and regenerates knowing what will change. The first is gambling. The second is composition.
