Level 1 — Local AI Music Generation
Build a complete working knowledge of MusicGPT (the gabotechs open-source app): installation on any platform, UI mode and CLI mode generation, model size selection, the six-element prompt framework, DAW integration, and the licensing reality that governs every audio file the tool produces. By Session 12 you have a finished music bed generated and integrated into a real content project.

Over 12 sessions you will install MusicGPT on your platform, confirm a working installation, learn UI mode (the chat interface at localhost:8642) and CLI mode (direct terminal generation and batch scripting), understand how MusicGen produces audio and what it can and cannot do, learn to select the right model size for each stage of production, master the six-element prompt framework, build a personal prompt library, integrate generated audio into a DAW, and understand the CC-BY-NC-4.0 license fully enough to make commercially sound production decisions.
By Session 12 you will have completed a full music bed production from prompt to a finished piece of non-commercial content — and the MusicGPT workflow fluency to produce that outcome independently in under 2 hours for any similar project.

MusicGPT Foundations focuses entirely on core workflow: understanding what the tool is and is not, generating audio that is actually usable, writing prompts that produce targeted results, and integrating that audio into a production context correctly. Nothing is assumed except that you want to use AI music generation professionally and responsibly.
Completing this level unlocks Level 2 Creative Control & Workflow (advanced prompt variation, genre blending, batch scripting, DAW processing, the complete AI music tool stack) and Level 3 Professional (autonomous pipelines, GPU infrastructure, monetization architecture, teaching).
12 Sessions — MusicGPT Foundations
Session 1
What MusicGPT is and is not: the gabotechs app vs. commercial platforms, MusicGen architecture, and the one licensing fact you must know before generating anything.
Session 2
Installation: macOS (Homebrew), Windows (binary), Linux, Docker (GPU). First launch, model download, and CLI confirmation.
Session 3
UI mode: launching the chat interface, your first generation, parameter control, and using chat history as a prompt engineering reference.
Session 4
CLI mode: basic syntax, duration and model flags, and writing a batch script that generates 5 variations of a prompt.
Session 5
Understanding MusicGen: how the model was trained, how text conditioning works, and the practical implications for prompt engineering.
Session 6
Model sizes: small, medium, large, and melody — benchmarks, memory requirements, and the three-stage generation workflow.
Session 7
Prompt Engineering I: the six elements (genre, tempo, instrumentation, mood, texture, ambience) and specificity principles.
Session 8
Prompt Engineering II: genre-by-genre vocabulary for hip hop, electronic, jazz, ambient, R&B, classical, and world music.
Session 9
The licensing reality: CC-BY-NC-4.0 defined, permitted uses enumerated, prohibited uses enumerated, and MWHQ production workflow guidance.
Session 10
DAW integration: locating generated files, sample rate conversion, import procedure, and processing chain (EQ, compression, saturation).
Session 11
Building a prompt library: structure, organization, tagging, maintenance, and a starter template for each major genre category.
Session 12
Capstone: a complete music bed production from prompt to a finished, integrated piece of non-commercial content.
